‘Oh, no! It is going to be a tough year for us’, or ‘how are we going to survive being jobless after we graduated?‘ these are the words we might hear now especially from the fresh graduates and retrenched workers. Who would have thought that we will be spending almost half of the year stranded in our house during the Movement Control Order because of the COVID 19 pandemic? No one, right? Work from home, online classes, and social distancing are the new norm we practice in our daily lives now. Trust me, things are not easy especially to those who are unemployed or got retrenched. These are the people who try to make a living by doing odd jobs to survive during the pandemic. There are so many ways you can do to increase your employability rate, especially during this pandemic. Be a social media butterfly
We are currently living in the new digital era and having a credible online presence will come in very handy in today’s world. I know most of us, especially Gen X, Y, and Z, are familiar with social media. According to the Data Report website, roughly 4.66 billion people worldwide are using the internet, and that is close to 60 percent of the world’s total population. We consume a lot of information from social media rather than traditional media such as newspapers. Hence, as a generation living with the technologies around us, we have to be smart enough to utilize the internet and social media to increase our skills and online presence. If you are looking for a job, make sure to have a LinkedIn account and start networking. If you have a passion for photography for example, upload pictures or your portfolio on your LinkedIn account to increase your presence on the net.
However, some employers like to be an FBI and do a Social Media check of their future employee. Hence, do mind your words on Social Media, you do not want to be too vocal and avoid the usage of faulty words on your posting as this could tarnish your reputation and chances to get hired is practically low.
